Taking Refuge in the Secret Place

October 14, 2011, by KCM 4 comments

I believe every word God says in Psalm 91 (and the rest of the Bible too, for that matter). I believe with all my heart that if I dwell “in the secret place of the most High [and] shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty,” if “I say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust,” then surely—absolutely, for sure, without a doubt—“He shall deliver [me] from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence” (Psalm 91:1-3).

What exactly is the snare of the fowler? It’s any trap, hazard or harm that Satan might throw in our path.

What’s a noisome pestilence? It’s any damaging or deadly sickness, disease, plague or substance that has ever existed in the past or will ever exist in the future.

When you think about it, just those two phrases offer us all the protection we’ll ever need. They cover every kind of danger we could possibly encounter. But even so, Psalm 91 doesn’t stop there.

It goes on to tell us that when we’re under God’s protection, we will “not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day” (verse 5). We don’t have to lie awake at night worrying about what might be lurking out there in the darkness, we can sleep in peace. If we or our loved ones are serving in the military, we don’t have to be afraid of arrows or bullets or missiles or grenades or IEDs. We don’t have to fret about natural disasters like fires, earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis, storms, or any other kind of “destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday” (verse 6, The Amplified Bible).

As massive and destructive as such things might be, God can get us through them all in perfect safety. He can surround us with His power so that, as verse 7 says, even if “a thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.”

If you think that kind of protection sounds too good to be true, all you have to do is keep reading and you’ll see that Psalm 91 promises it again and again. It says, for example, that “because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling” (verses 9-10).

The word refuge means “a tent or a covering.” It’s something that encloses you. Think of it! When we trust God as our refuge, we walk around enclosed by the Spirit of the living, Almighty God!

A Reborn Race

October 7, 2011, by KCM 1 comment

The thought that every born-again believer can operate in the power of THE BLESSING the same way Jesus or the early apostles did, amazes many Christians. They struggle to picture themselves multiplying natural resources (like loaves and fish), healing the sick or raising the dead. Yet, in the Bible, Jesus emphatically declared that any person with simple faith in Him could do all those things and more:

  • “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12)
  • “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” (verses 13-14)
  • “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” (Matthew 17:20)
  • “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” (Mark 16:17-18)

KCM Blesses Wiley College Incoming Freshmen With Bibles…Once Again!

September 29, 2011, by KCM 3 comments

KCM Partners continue to enrich the lives of freshmen at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. For the third year we have donated 450 Bibles to these students who are just beginning their college careers. Wiley College, founded in 1873, is a historically black, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

Founded by Bishop Isaac T. Wiley, a well-known minister, missionary and educator, Wiley College is distinguished as one of the oldest black colleges west of the Mississippi. The college is noted for its high academic standards and its historic debate team, portrayed in the highly acclaimed 2008 film “The Great Debaters.”

Karen L. Bright, Director of Church Relations, says,

“Thank you for assisting Wiley College in fulfilling its mission as an institution of the United Methodist Church. It is with great respect and admiration that the Wiley College Family sends our warmest appreciation to the Kenneth Copeland Ministries for the Bibles that were delivered for the Julius S. Scott, Sr. Chapel [service] on Tuesday, September 13, 2011.”

With this year’s contribution, KCM has now blessed more than 1400 students of Wiley College. The tradition goes on at the college that “the first book that freshmen receive at Wiley will be the Bible.” Thank you, Partners and Friends…you have helped these young leaders take an important step in their path to their bright future!

A Supernatural Picture of Peace

September 15, 2011, by KCM 1 comment

You don’t have to be a financial genius to see that right now the world’s economy is under assault. With people talking about recession, depression and inflation everywhere you turn, it’s easy to get the picture—and it’s not very pretty. In fact, it’s downright dark.

But, thank God, if you’re a believer that picture doesn’t include you. The Bible assures you of it. It says to those who have been born again:

You aren’t in the dark…dear brothers and sisters…. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. Night is the time when people sleep…. But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the [body] armor of faith and love… (1 Thessalonians 5:4-8, New Living Translation).

Isn’t it wonderful to know that even in the midst of an embattled economy, we can live in peace? We can strap on our faith/love body armor and prosper—no matter what’s happening around us. We can be like the soldiers we see on television who wear their protective gear and stay safe right in the middle of a combat zone.

Reaching Milestones-Reaching More People in Europe

September 12, 2011, by KCM No comments yet

Jesus ist Herr! That’s German for Jesus is Lord. And it’s the tag line for the next milestone KCM Europe has set to accomplish in its outreach to the people of Europe through the airing of the Believer’s Voice of Victory television broadcast in the German language.

KCM Europe Executive Director Martin Hawkins and his ministry team have taken major steps in 2011 toward that goal.

On May 7, BVOV made its English language debut on the German television station Das Vierte. The program airs weekly on Saturday and is repeated on Sunday. The KCM Europe staff has worked alongside the U.S. television production staff to supply content that will bring the life-changing message of Christ to the German language airways.

Ultimately, the goal is that the broadcast be aired not only in Germany, but also in other German-speaking areas of Europe.

Hawkins says, “We are grateful to God for this new outreach opportunity and give glory to the Name of Jesus that KCM has begun a new phase of ministry to German-speaking people. Thanks to all our KCM worldwide Partners and Friends for standing with us as we complete what God has called us to do to reach this milestone.”

KCM Europe’s first step in reaching German-speaking people has been mailing BVOV magazines in the German language—bimonthly since 2002, and monthly since February 2006. Over 70 KCM titles have also been translated into German and a new website launched—kcm.org.uk/de—where everyone can access the basic elements of KCM’s ministry, the BVOV magazine in both German and English, and partnership information.

9-11: 10 Years Ago

September 8, 2011, by KCM No comments yet
As we approach the 10-year anniversary and reflect on the events that occurred on September 11, 2001, we want to encourage you with a message that is just as timely today as it was then. Whether through acts of terrorism, attacks on our economy or challenges with health and healing, God has provided for your every need!

Upon hearing of the terrible attack by terrorists on 9-11, the staff of Kenneth Copeland Ministries immediately went into prayer and intercession for the nation and the thousands who were victimized by this cowardly offense. During prayer, the Lord told Brother Copeland that “This is an attack of the devil against God, against His people and against all that we stand for, against our stand with the Nation of Israel.” Brother Copeland also declared that the Body of Christ must refuse to fear!

Our desire at Kenneth Copeland Ministries to help you wage war on fear through discovery of God’s perfect love—love that casts out fear (1 John 4:18). In every way He equips this ministry, we desire to help you remove every source of fear from your life and to walk as living proof of God’s love.

Fear cannot maintain a grip on those who know God as a God of love. It cannot hold those who know the protection and victory God promises to those who trust Him.

In the midst of the world’s turmoil and terror, God promises care for you. Through His Word, you can find God’s place of safety and His strength to spoil the devil’s attempt to reign through fear: “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord your refuge” (Psalm 91:8, Amplified Bible).

So fear not!

The world copes with fear—we attack it! We have a Helper…His Name is Jesus. And no devil in hell, no device of man, is going to bring us down.

Know that we are praying for your protection as you confidently rest in God’s care for you.

Some Turn to Church During Flood Threat

August 19, 2011, by KCM No comments yet

By Hailey Konnath, hkonnath@nonpareilonline.com
(Originally posted Sunday, July 17, Nonpareil Online, Council Bluffs, Iowa)

It’s difficult to pinpoint all of the different ways a natural disaster affects an individual. Those effects extend to so many areas of life, touching our jobs, our homes and, in turn, our families, friends and neighbors.

With so many things impacted by a natural disaster, it can also extend to another part of our lives: Our faith.

New Life Fellowship Church sits on the corner of North 24th Street and Avenue L. These days, that’s about a half-mile from the waters of the Missouri River. But its congregation is growing, and its leaders say the community is alive and well.

“It’s just given us opportunities to be a blessing to others,” said the Rev. Annette Wagoner, associate pastor for the church. “To encourage them, to lift them up, to pray for them.”

The church, whose members come from all over the metro area, was affected only slightly and temporarily by the closing of the 25th Street exit of Interstate 29, but the effect has since diminished.

New Life Fellowship is a word of faith, interdenominational Christian church that follows the Kenneth Copeland Ministries. Wagoner estimated an average weekly attendance of 150 to 200 people. But the numbers are increasing.

“It hasn’t been a huge increase, just moderate,” said the Rev. David Leggett, the church’s senior pastor.

Tony Raemakers, who is the lead usher, said he notices a constant influx of new faces.
“Every week we have probably at least three or four new families,” he said.

Admittedly, the new faces don’t always return, Raemakers said. But oftentimes they do.

Greg Horihan, who is on the church’s board of directors, said he thinks people turn to churches during a natural disaster because they are looking for something to turn to for hope.

“Our faith is what sustains us in these trying times,” he said.

Leggett said the church is providing mainly spiritual and emotional support to its congregation.

“We’ve got some families who haven’t had to move yet,” he said, “but come in to visit for encouragement and hope that there is a future and their future will have some bright places in it. With God you know that all things are possible.”

Bill Spencer, who is also on the board of directors, said the increase in attendance may be attributed to a movement sweeping the country.

“I think a lot of it has to do with the spiritual awakening coming to the country as a whole,” he said.

Spencer doesn’t worry about the flood. He places his trust in God, he said.

“I firmly believe God is watching out for us,” he said.

Raemakers said his faith has not been affected by the flood, but he sees how it has affected others. As a church, they pray for the floodwaters not to reach them. And from an aerial view, he said, the dry land around their area is almost like an island.

“It kind of demonstrates what prayer can do,” he said.

Leggett and Wagoner said the constant negativity surrounding the flood in the news and around town could foster a sense of hopelessness.

“People do feel tested in their faiths,” he said.

Wagoner agreed.

“It shows what you do believe and your response,” she said.

New Life Fellowship simply wants to be somewhere hope is restored and maintained, Leggett said.

“We can’t ignore it,” he said. “But at the same time we’re the place that just wants to offer you encouragement.”
